At Stella Maris we are committed to delivering the very highest standard in education. All our pupils are taught the main core subjects of Literacy, Numeracy and Reasoning but we also like to give our pupils the opportunity to learn and develop other skills by finding enjoyment in additional subject areas so that all pupils may reach their full potential.
As an independent school we don’t do SATs the children don’t need to worry about these exams they can focus on their own individual development.

Curriculum Subjects where Specialist Teachers are used
French
As part of Stella Maris School’s day to day teaching, all pupils learn French from the Pre-Prep to Year.
Speech and Public Speaking
A dedicated Speech and Drama Teacher comes into school on a weekly basis to deliver bespoke teaching sessions to various age groups across the school. Children who participate in speech lessons are entered for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (L.A.M.D.A.) speech examinations.
Sports
At Stella Maris, as part of promoting a healthy lifestyle we actively encourage all pupils to participate in the sporting activities and opportunities laid on by the school.
During their P.E. lessons children are involved in a whole range of activities, and sports, including football, cricket, netball, rounders and hockey. The children are taught by coaches from the Stockport County Community Outreach.
Children in Years 3-6 enjoy swimming lessons at Stockport’s Grand Central Pool on Friday afternoons throughout the year. The lessons are taught by professional swimming coaches.
To give children an even wider introduction to the world of Sport, an optional after-school Sports Club provides tuition in a variety of sports and games on Wednesday evenings. This Club is hosted by the Primary Sports Coaching team.
During the Summer Term we hold an annual Sports Day when all pupils take part and all their families are welcome to attend. We also run a cross-country event during the Spring Term.
Music
We hold a proud tradition of excellence in music and our choir has achieved considerable success at many local and major music festivals over the years, – for example our entry in the Heaton Mersey Youth Festival. Each year the choir performs at local residential homes and other occasions in the community.
Recorder/ukulele/keyboard introduction is included in the Music timetable. Some children choose to further this interest by having individual instrumental sessions, outside of their class lessons. These take place during the school day but can also be accessed before or after school. Our dedicated instrumental Music teacher, Mr Bowie, will be happy to assist with any enquiries relating to instrumental tuition.
