Reports / Formal Parent-Teacher Meetings
Pupils are sent home with three formal reports each academic year: a progress report at the end of the Autumn Term, another at the end of the Spring Term and the main academic report at the end of the school year.
An informal settling-in meeting takes place during the first couple of weeks in the school year. This is an opportunity for parents to meet with their child’s class teacher and ask any questions which they may have. A more formal meeting is held during the Spring Term to talk about progress and the way forward. Parents will also have the opportunity to meet with class teachers near the end of the year as the child prepares to move on to their next class.
However, various classes have different timescales for these meetings so teachers will always notify parents in advance in order to give them adequate time to arrange meetings which are convenient for them.
At Stella Maris School we operate an open door policy whereby teachers are available on a daily basis from 8.45 am to 9 am and after school in the evenings from 3.05 pm to 3.30 pm if parents need to have a quick chat. For issues which may need extra time we suggest that an appointment be made with the class teacher.
Examinations
Each term has its own assessment and testing procedures, which vary from class to class. These arrangements are explained in more detail in our Assessment, Recording and Reporting Policy which can be found in the policies section of this website.
The entrance examinations for local senior schools usually take place either in the early part of the Autumn Term for Trafford 11+ candidates or during the beginning of the Spring Term (January); consequently there are special meetings for Year 6 parents concerning these examinations during the Autumn Term. Parents of Year 6 pupils are responsible for ensuring they have entered their child for the senior school of their choice. However, parents will be guided by the Headteacher when deadlines are approaching. The Headteacher is always available to help with any queries parents may have regarding the exam process.
