At Stella Maris School we encourage our children to take part in local charitable and community events, as this helps children to develop a sense of citizenship as they grow older. Last Sunday morning a group of our children attended the service of Remembrance at St. John’s Church. They turned up in their school uniform, participated in the service and laid a wreath at the memorial in Heaton Mersey, as a sign of respect and appreciation on behalf of the whole school community. One of our older children delivered the two readings at the beginning of the service and read with confidence, fluency and expression. British Values is an integral part of our curriculum at Stella Maris School and celebrating important events like the Remembrance Festival helps the children to understand the context of this teaching.
